DIY Gift 3: Aprons

Time to post something I made for Helena, although I made one for Reid, too. I had some oilcloth left over from an earlier project and decided to use the rest for a couple of aprons for the kids. I had them all cut out and ready to go and then I found some laminated cotton that took my breath away. Instead of matching aprons, Helena has a pink one and Reid has a blue one. I used a tutorial as a guide, but really had to just wing it because she is so tiny (Can you believe it? She was such a hoss in the beginning).

This is Reid's. His has a pocket in the front. The bears in the print are both BOYS and girls, and the boys are fishing and digging. That's manly, right? It's a vintage print and apparently folks didn't get their panties in a wad about mixed genders on a print back then (cough, cough, Kenny). Also, last I checked, the alphabet and numbers are unisex and both are on the print, too.
I only had to buy a quarter of a yard of the cotton for hers and had a package of bias tape and ribbon already. It took all of about 15 mins and, voila, an apron. I zigzagged the bias tape around the edges and used the ribbon as ties. I loooove it!

Tomorrow, Helena's turn. A gift made especially for her.
