DIY Christmas Day 2: Lego Bag

Reid recently discovered the joys of Legos. I have recently become reacquainted with the pain of nocturnal Lego injury due to wayward blocks lying in wait. I had seen a few bags that are used as a play mat and for Lego storage, looked at a few tutorials and decided it was doable (as I always do, I'm a sucker for a tutorial).

I got some duck cloth for the main circle and found some green upholstery fabric in remnants that I thought would work. I really wish I could explain how I did it, but it's probably better if you just looked up a tutorial that makes sense to you. I was able to figure the circumference and cut the green fabric on the bias so I would have enough to go around the circle.

I used this state of the art tool to measure the width of the bias tape.

I was so proud of my math skillz. I was sewing along, thinking all that 8th grade math that I interpreted was paying off. Until I finished and put it down and the edge wouldn't lie down. I don't know if I measured wrong, if the fabric was too stiff or it I didn't cut the bias correctly, but I will say that from now on, I will claim that I meant for it to turn out like this. In a way, it is better, because the Legos will stay on the mat.

I added grommets to either side and laced some cording thru the tape. I wanted the cord enclosed so the kids wouldn't trip over it.

Despite my lack of math skills, the bag turned out just right. Gift 2 done!
