New York: Week One

I've been home several weeks, left for another trip to New York and still haven't even posted about my first trip yet. It was a little over three weeks of a fun filled, packed from morning to night, marathon of a good time.

Week one was a girl fest. The Loop, minus one looper plus an extra, in our darling apt. We saw Wicked, Memphis, Newsies and One Man, Two Guvnors. We ate more than we should, laughed liked everyone needs to, and pretty much enjoyed ourselves completely. We went to Flea Markets and farmers markets and picnicked in Central Park, our tradition, but also did some things alone.

After one of our matinees, we headed over to another show so Gwenn could fulfill a fantasy. Lawsy, that girl has a thing for Blair Underwood! As luck would have it, he was in a show right next to what we had just seen. I devised a plan for her to get up close and personal. Before his show was finished, we planted ourselves outside the door and waited. A few minutes later, out he came! Gwennie almost wet her pants! He was a very gracious man and even took the time to have his picture made with Flat Stanley.

One of my alone things, tho not completely alone, was checking something off my bucket list that had been there for about a decade. It was the the highlight of this week: the wedding. I love weddings and I love churches. I've always wanted to crash a wedding at the fabulous St Patrick's Cathedral, but had a hard time convincing anyone to join me. This year I was able to. Lori and I dressed up and headed to the church. There were no weddings happening at the time so I asked a security guard if there were any weddings that day. He told us yes, at 1,2, and 3. We headed out for some lunch and came back just as the bride was arriving. There were hundreds of tourist onlookers so we headed to a side door. Another security guard was there and told us we couldn't go in.

"We can't go to the wedding?" I asked.

"Oh, yes, of course. Go on in." He replied.

Made it! The wedding was beautiful and so worth the crash.

The other thing I've always wanted to see was the Mermaid Parade. It is at Coney Island, which is a little far and that made it difficult to get to. Lori was game for this, too, though, so we took off right after the wedding to see all that is crazy New York.

Yep, that's a stripper pole in the parade.

We enjoyed at the mayhem with about a million (literally) other people. Our wedding finery was strangely not out of place since most everyone was dressed out of the norm. The only thing that made it stand out was the amount of skin we had covered as opposed to everyone else.

We had such a good time being together and I really cherish the memories I've made with these girls.

Next post...Week 2, the men come to town.
