Pinned It, Did It

I've been pinning for going on a year now and my obsession hasn't waned. Pinterest to me is the drug I need to feed my crafting, cooking, gardening cravings and I can do it without paying for magazine subscriptions (although I still have to have Martha Stewart and Bon Appetit in my hands). Add to that the ability to comment on things and discuss them with friends and virtual friends makes it crack for me. In the beginning I wildly pinned whatever caught my eye (I'll probably not add a small waterpark in my backyard). Now I'm much more conscious of whether or not I need it on a board. I also check the link to be sure I can actually see the tute, read the blog or whatever.

I've posted some of the things I've done in other entries. I've done lots of bows and stuff for Helena. I've gotten ideas for cards and announcements, decorated a nursery using ideas gleaned from there and hosted birthday parties and showers based on stuff I've seen there. I even did a Pinterest party. My favorite thing is to get inspiration and for photography. Sometimes when I feel like I can't shoot another picture, I take a look at others' work and it gets me excited again.

I've decided to now post on things I've tried and whether or not they were successful and if I'd do it again. Since I'm not good at following directions, I'll probably add a few modifications to the original tute. Sometimes that works for me and sometimes it's a bust. Hopefully you fellow crafters in blogland can give me some pointers, too, on where I went wrong or how to do it better.

I'm planning a trip to NYC (more on that later) and I needed something to cover my ears. I hate hats because I kinda have a melon head and I have a hard time finding one to fit. When I saw this on Pinterest, I had to have it. It combines my need for ear warmers with my current love of felted wool and fabric flowers.

I had an old sweater of Meg's that I had used for some flowers for Helena that was already felted. I liked the color and there was enough there to make the band.

I cut out the band the approximate size I thought I needed and cut out the flowers free hand. For each flower I cut out several wavy circles in various sizes and stacked them up. I stitched them on, pulling really tightly so they would pucker. I added an old button and whip stitched a hem on both sides. I cut and hand finished a button hole (it looked awful, but no one will see it).

I didn't like the solid orange look, it was kinda boring, so I added some gray. I liked it a lot better.

I like how it turned out and I'm excited to have a reason to wear it!
