New Friends, new experiences

Reid had his first trip out of the house yesterday, unless you count the doctor and the "Lion King" drives, which we don't. Today was a real, intentional excursion for shopping and lunch with Mommy and Mamie. It was also to include the doctor for a well baby check at the end of the day, but we (M & M) thought that no one had changed the time in the car so we missed the appt by an hour. Apparently new mommy forgetfulness and confusion also extends to grandmas. We went to Babies r Us for diapers and toys. I felt that little Reidy needed his gifted-ness more stimulated so we picked up a few things to enrich his playtime. The solar system playmat is exactly what a burgeoning nerd needs and he already stares intently at the bees that are buzzing around him, clamped to the side of his swing. I think he may have made a swipe at them a few times, but maybe he was only stretching. I certainly don't want to be one of those grandmas that think everything they do is a sign of genius. Time will tell.

Reid also had his first playdates this week. Lucky for him that his mom and dad have friends with kids his age. Shepherd (almost 2) came over with his parents one evening and was fascinated with the baby. His friend Alia (10 months) came over with her parents for a shoot and a visit and the came again the next day with her mom and his buddy Lucas (5 months) and mom. I got to take pictures of both the kids. Reid sat this shoot out, not wanting to hog the camera. If you've ever had me shoot your kids, you know how I shoot. It doesn't matter how crude the equipment, if the babies are gorgeous, the pictures are going to be. We shot these on the floor in Meg's kitchen. We were in front of the glass back door and different mommies were holding the backdrop, sometimes while nursing a baby, while another mom stood behind me, making faces & silly noises or singing in Korean and one did baby wrangling if they tried to get away. Typical shoot.

Here is the family I did. He is one of Eddie's friends from work and she helped with the wonderful shower Meg had there.

This is Lucas. He is a chubby, delicious bundle of boy. His mommy calls him "Meatball".

This is Alia and you can see her personality in her eyes! She is a beautiful little girl and the kind of baby that makes me look like a great photographer. The dress she has a family heirloom. I believe the dress was made by her daddy's great grandmother.
Mom didn't have a tutu, but I told her that I couldn't do the shoot without one. This girl required a tutu shot, don't you think?
