Here We Go

Our truck was packed full and ready to go. The back of the truck was as full as the back seat. Turns out driving across the country in an old truck without ac is not as bad as it sounds if you like the person you're traveling with.

Our first stop was in Memphis for Kenny's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives tour. A BBQ place called the Cozy Corner. So far every one of these places has been kinda dive-ish. Old bathrooms must be a standard requirement. The food, according to Kenny, was great. I couldn't eat anything but the soft stuff because of the tooth issue.

The next day we headed for another one, The Blue Moon in Baltimore. A total let down and it looked like it had the potentional to have a clean bathroom. We got there at 2:20 and they didn't close until 3, but apparently they were tired of working. We walked in and a girl with too many tatoos ( I realize this is a personal opinion, but I KNOW you all have your own tatoo limits) and a shirt that didn't cover the lower ones (not because of style but because she had "out grown" it) looked over her shoulder and said, "We're not serving anymore," and turned around. Hmmmm. 2:20 is past lunch & I was hungry and peeved. We crossed the street and ate at Ding How. Best Chinese in Baltimore, according to the yellowed accolades on their walls. Kenny said it was great. I ate soft food that was pretty good, too.

That night I couldn't stands no more! We ate pizza at a great place in Philly. By eat, I mean cut into little bitty bites and chew on one side of my mouth. It was worth it. Then we had Italian Ice Cream. I'm thinking I may be rebounding.

Today we drove into NYC. There is something about driving in and seeing the skyline. It's so huge! Whenever I see it I get excited. My heart starts beating fast. It's like seeing that good looking older boy in High School. The one who's really cool, too cool for you, but talks to you anyway. That's how I feel about NY. Really not cool enough, but trying so hard and very grateful I get to hang around. 2 of these pics are on the side of the highway as we drove into the Bronx. Bette Midler cleans up this mile of the highway. Who knew? She doesn't do a very good job, I can tell you that. The picture of the window and fence is from the highway and is someone's backyard. Can you imagine living like that. Sad.

The last picture is of our 3rd DD&D stop. It was WONDERFUL but didn't even have a bathroom. It's in the Bronx and it's a BBQ place in a trailer in South Bronx. Even scary for me and I don't scare that easily. I will say that on the way (a maybe 10 minute drive) I saw a woman puking her guts up on the street corner, a teenage girl hit by a car and some teenagers tagging the stairway to the subway. A first for all three. Have I told you I heart NY? Ohhh, I also got my first NY style air kiss. More on that later.
